Sundance Film Festival is in full swing here in Park City. Thanks to the Sundancers for bringing the snow to town with them. It continues to snow here in Park City and we have already received a foot or more at the ski areas.

Well the snow did start yesterday, just a little later than we had hoped. We did get 5-6 inches yesterday so there is some fresh powder on the mountain. They are blasting this morning for avalanches in Park City and the forecast for the rest of the week is more snow.

Hey everyone it’s finally snowing here in Park City. We are hoping to add to the 20″ base at PCMR. The snow on the mountain is great. Reports from the skiers that have made it onto the mountain are positive and that it is great skiing snow. We are keeping our fingers crossed that winter has finally arrived in Park City.

Utah ski resorts are doing a lot to help beginning skiers get onto the slope. With Park City Mountain and Deer Valley in Park City Utah doing their part to get the next generation on the slopes it is easier than ever to get your kids skiing. They also have great programs from Ski Utah to get adults started if you don’t know how. This is the year to learn to ski. Get out and do it.

October Snow

Hello again all you followers of the Park City Resort Lodging blog.

The first snowfall of the year in Park City, Utah, happened on October 6, 2011. This is a bit early for us to get a measurable snowfall. As I look out the window there are still a few flakes slowing making their way to the ground. Not a lot on the ground in town but the trees and rooftops have a dusting. The mountains surrounding us did receive a little bit of snow, about 2-4 inches.

As we look toward the start of ski season at the wonderful resorts in Park City, Utah it is great to see the snow falling and getting everyone excited for winter. I myself love the look of fresh snow while the autumn leaves are still on the trees. The orange, red, and yellow mixed with that pure white is always a pretty sight.

As we officially say hello to Autumn the past week in Park City has been beautiful. The reds and oranges of fall are vibrant and lighting up the hills.

Looking toward winter the Farmer’s Almanac provides the following information…

“Precipitation and snowfall will be above normal in the north. The snowiest periods will occur in early November, mid-December, mid-January, and early and late March. April and May will be much cooler and snowier than normal.”

Good news for the ski resorts this winter. Let’s hope the Farmer’s are right.

Winter is on the way

Happy Fall to everyone. As the rain is falling and the leaves are turning in Park City, thoughts are now turning to the upcoming ski season. This is the perfect time to begin that new conditioning program to get the most out of the ski season. Start now to build up those muscles that you will need to make it a safe and enjoyable winter. Do you have a certain trick for getting those muscles back into ski shape? Leave it in our comments and we will share it with everyone.

It is also time to get the equipment out and give everything a thorough inspection. This is a great time to make sure your boots fit correctly and that your skis or snowboards are not in need of any repairs. Finding the problems early will make for a less stressful first day of skiing. Do you have a specific routine for checking your ski/snowboard equipment? New Snow for April

WOW!!!! In the past 7 days Park City Mountain Resort has had 28″ of new snow. This is making for great Utah spring skiing. Anyone who is thinking they missed out on the season should head to Utah. We have great deals on lodging and wonderful skiing.
